Hi all,
Campus Compact if offering AmeriCorps Education Awards for student
leaders in service! The ed awards are funded by the federal government
and can be used toward college tuition expenses and loans. UVM also has
matching funds for AmeriCorps ed awards, which means you'll get a small
tuition cut if you use the ed award while still enrolled!
Here's how the ed awards work: You (the student) apply to be an ed award
recipient. In the application, you explain what type of volunteer work
you will be engaged in, and how you will "add value" to that service -
so how you will go above and beyond just doing regular volunteer hours.
This could mean starting a new program or project, taking on a
leadership position in your organization, etc. Things that count toward
the total ed award hours include:
- Volunteer/service hours at a local nonprofit
- Hours spent organizing service projects or managing volunteers
- Any service-related trainings or leadership development trainings
related to your organization's work
- A nonprofit internship or work study position
Below are the ed award options. You will need to pick your ed award in
your initial application. You have one year to complete your hours (or
two years if you pick the 900 hour option)

300 hours over 12 months: $1,132 Education Award

450 hours over 12 months: $1,415 Education Award

900 hours over 12 months: $2,675 Education Award

900 hours over 24 months: $2,675 Education Award

If you're interested in applying for an ed award, please send me an
email by the end of this week with your ed award preference, so we can
include you in our application to VCC. I especially encourage people who
hold leadership positions in service organizations to apply. It's a
great way to receive a little extra money for college, while being
recognized for your amazing work!
All the best,
Sarah
