The time has come! The Call for Proposals for the 2004 AERA Annual Meeting
has been posted on the AERA website, at http://www.aera.net/meeting. This
will be the 85th Annual Meeting of the American Educational Research
Association, to be held April 12-16, 2004, in San Diego, California. All
proposals must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. (Pacific Time) on August 1,
2003.
The 2004 theme is Enhancing the Visibility and Credibility of Educational
Research. There are also three sub-themes:
Brown v. Board of Education50 years later.
Teacher Learning and Development.
Justifying Evidence -Based Claims.
Program Co-Chair Susan Bernstein and I encourage you to submit a proposal
to our Family, School, Community Partnerships SIG. Here are some of our
theme-related thoughts:
What is the role of family, school, and community partnerships in
addressing issues of educational quality and inclusiveness? How does a
school build partnerships when families come from many diverse ethnic
groups? What is the theoretical base that supports teacher learning about
family involvement in children's learning? How can we strengthen and
promote our evidence-based claims for the impact of family engagement on
children's achievement?
Of course, we welcome any paper proposals that relate to our SIG's
purpose, "to promote the study and dissemination of research on family
processes and home, school, and community relationships that support
children's education and development." If you will be submitting a
proposal that seems to tie in with another SIG, please let us know. We
would like to explore the possibility of co-sponsorship and draw a larger,
more diverse group to our sessions.
To submit proposals for presentations at the conference, you must use the
new Online Proposal Submission System at
