--- THE CONFERENCE SETTING ---
The 2001 Learning Conference is to be held on the Island of Spetses in
Greece, just two hours by fast ferry from Athens. The setting is the
historic Anargyrios and Korgialenios School of Spetses, the school where
author of *The Magus1, John Fowles taught, and which provided the
inspiration for his novel. The former boarding school closed in the early
1980s, and its buildings have recently been restored and converted into a
conference centre under the Cultural Heritage of Europe program.
Accommodation will be in the numerous small hotels and pensions in the
exquisite town of Spetses, clustered around the wharf and a short walk from
the school - no cars are allowed on the island, with its narrow streets and
historic buildings.
