Environmental Molecular Science Instrument (EMSI) Technician


Hamilton College, a small liberal arts institution located in rural  
upstate New York, is dedicated to the involvement of students in  
scientific research, within a new, state-of-the-art $65 million  
Science Center and its excellent supporting facilities. In support of  
this mission, the College has launched a new, million dollar science  
initiative in Environmental Molecular Sciences. As part of this  
initiative, we seek a qualified EMSI Technician to supervise,  
maintain and administer the operation of the following analytical  
facilities:

-A new stable isotope mass spectrometer (with elemental analyzer for  
C and N and an interface for carbonates and water);

-A liquid chromatograph/mass spectrometer, with an ion trap detector,  
and equipped with a desoprtion electrospray ionization accessory;

-A gas chromatograph/mass spectrometer with robotic autosampler;

-An ion chromatograph;

-A gas adsorption specific surface area analyzer.

Additional responsibilities may be anticipated in the future as other  
instruments are acquired in support the EMSI mission. Experience in  
working with the systems described is essential.

This is a full-time, three-year administrative appointment (with the  
possibility of continuance), starting July 1, 2007, and includes a
