Thanks Gerry...it was that the wrong syringe was selected. I suspect 
the new student I've been training accidentally hit "chg syr" while 
doing other things and unwittingly set it incorrectly. I've got to 
add that to the list of things to advise newbies...

Anyway, it's working great again now.
