Tenure-Track Position in Marine or Aquatic Inorganic Geochemistry
The Dept. of Physical Sciences of the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) and the School of Marine Science of the College of William & Mary seeks applicants for a tenure-track faculty position in marine or aquatic inorganic geochemistry. It is anticipated that this position will be filled at the Assistant or beginning Associate Professor level as early as July 2007. Applicants should have research and teaching interests in the quantitative understanding of geochemical/biogeochemical processes influencing inorganic species in marine systems. Areas of specialization may include, but are not limited to: biogeochemical cycling of trace elements; interactions of inorganic substances with marine biota and mineral surfaces; atmospheric transport and fate of inorganic contaminants.
Applicants must have a Ph.D., and postdoctoral research and teaching experience are highly desirable. For appointment at the Assistant Professor level, the candidate must demonstrate a strong potential for future success in research productivity through external funding and publication of peer-review manuscripts. For appointment at the Associate Professor level, candidates must have a demonstrated record of peer-reviewed publications and externally funded grants, interdisciplinary collaborations, experience teaching graduate courses and mentoring M.S. and Ph.D. students. Faculty in the School of Marine Science are expected to develop an independently funded research program, teach at the introductory and advanced graduate levels, mentor M.S. and Ph.D. students, and participate as needed in advisory functions of the Institute.
The Virginia Institute of Marine Science is one of the leading estuarine and coastal marine science institutions in the world, with 65 faculty and a graduate student body of over 130. VIMS houses state-of-the-art oceanographic instrumentation and analytical facilities, a large fleet of coastal research vessels, a world-class marine science library, and is within close proximity to estuarine, continental margin, and open ocean environments. The School of Marine Science is a part of the College of William & Mary, one of the top-rated public universities in the United States. Further information on VIMS and William & Mary can be found at http://www.vims.edu.
Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, a statement of research and teaching interests, and names and contact information for three references. All materials should be submitted electronically at (http://www.vims.edu/physical/) to: Chair, Inorganic Geochemist Search Committee, Department of Physical Sciences, School of Marine Science, Virginia Institute of Marine Science. Review of applications will begin on January 3, 2007 and continue until the position is filled.
The College is an EEO/AA employer.
