Dear Aninda,
is sulfide antioxidant buffer a possible solution for you? One way to measure
sulfide eventually has the sample in SAOB anyway, so storing the sample in
SAOB should be OK. Make sure to avoid headspace in a closed container. I
would suggest simply freezing the samples as soon as acquired; frozen samples
not further exposed to air will not further oxidize.

There are several recipes for SAOB, planning to cut it 1:1 with sample. For a
more traditional SAOB, to 1.0 L deaerated distilled water add 150 g NaOH, 35
g ascorbic acid, 15 g Na2EDTA*2H2O. Ascorbate isn't the best antioxidant, but
is cheap and soluble. EDTA is a fine chelator; citrate is cheaper.

Dear listmembers,

I am interested to know the best way to store sulfide
bearing marine sediments so that the dissolved sulfide
and sulfate (pore-water)concentrations can be
accurately measured in the laboratory, incase i am
unable to do it immediately on-board. We want to avoid
oxidation completely. We are planning to keep the
sample bags/bottles in liquid nitrogen.
I would appriciate if you share your experiences in
this regard.
