As of about 1:00 print services were restored to full functionality.  We 
are continuing to monitor the situation for continuing problems.

The cause of the service outage appears to have been a faulty print 
processor provided by HP.  Effectively, a single failing HP printer 
caused the entire print service to become corrupted.  Replacing the HP 
print processor with a generic Microsoft processor restored service to 
all other printers.  The offending device was then removed from the network.
