Giovanni is a poor boy whose life is filled with hardship. But while
staring into the starry sky, a mysterious galactic train appears and takes
him on a wonderful voyage of inner discovery. Based upon the 1927 Japanese
literary classic by Miyazawa Kenji.
3/9 (Th) Muddy River 1981. Directed by Kohei Oguri
In 1956, eleven years after the war, near the mouth of the muddy Aji River
in Osaka there is a modest eatery run by Shinpei, a World War II veteran
demoralized by the experience of soldiering in Manchuria, seeing his
comrades die, and surviving the war only to eke out a marginal existence in
Japan. His love for his son is his strongest motive to keep on living.
3/16 (Th) After Life 1998. Directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda
What if you had to choose one memory to take with you into the afterlife?
This moving and original film is set at a way station between Heaven and
Earth, where guides help the newly dead shift through their memories for a
defining moment to take with them into eternity.
