INTERNET EDUCATION SPECIALIST
The Edward G. Miner Library seeks a dynamic candidate to fill a new position,
the Internet Education Specialist, available in August 1994. The Internet
librarian will play a key role in expanding and diversifying the library's
education programs as the Medical Center develops its integrated advanced
information management system.
The Internet Education Specialist will coordinate the development,
implementation, promotion and evaluation of programs to assist all primary
user groups in network-based information access and management; develop and
maintain instructional offerings, serve as instructor, and provide individual
consultation on access to Internet-based resources; act as primary resource
person for faculty in locating and developing computer-based instructional
materials; coordinate development of the library's collections of programs
for computer-based learning. Reports to the Head of Education Services.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Coordinate the development, instruction and evaluation of user education
programs on finding, retrieving and managing network based biomedical
information, incorporating instructional technologies as appropriate.
2. Develop and select network-based information resources to meet needs of
faculty, staff and students of the Medical Center for education programs,
research, and life-long learning.
3. Design, develop and evaluate educational programs, and serve as instructor.
Coordinate the involvement of other instructors for the library's
network-based education programs.
4. Coordinate publicity and promotion activities for Library programs and
services, including organization of promotional events and liaison with
student groups. Gather statistics and prepare reports as needed.
5. Work with the Computing/Network Services Librarian and Medical Informatics
staff to select, organize and promote the use of computer-based educational
materials.
6. Participate as a member in appropriate committees and groups (within the
Medical Center and university as well as local, regional, or national) to
share information, coordinate activities and remain current with developments
in library instruction and end-user search systems.
7. Partipate in planning for the Education Services department and in
library-wide planning.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: Master's in Library Science, Education/Curriculum Development, or
related field and at least 1 year's experience in a library setting,
preferably medical academic library. Undergrad or graduate training in
biological sciences. Excellent speaking and writing skills. Experience in
adult education. Experience using Internet and network-based information
resources. Macintosh or PC experience with standard applications. Team
participation and coordination skills. Familiarity with Internet biomedical
resources.
Desirable : Experience with computer-related instruction and curriculum
design. Experience with CBE authoring packages. Familiarity with
computer-based learning software for biomedical education. Proven ability to
build and coordinate the work of a cross-departmental team.
Minimum salary $28,000. We offer a competitive benefits package.
