Your question prompted me to think about why I joined SLA. I have been a
member of MLA for 17+ years and have gotten what I need there as far as
medical librarianship goes. I joined SLA primarily for two reasons:
1. The good CE courses and workshops they offer.
2. A little broader perspective on the library field, esp. special libs.
I don't think I need SLA for more information about medical libraries. MLA
does that for me. In addition, SLA charges additional fees to join more
special groups don't they?
But maybe I don't understand the reasons clearly enough. Could you tell me
the advantages for forming a medical library group in SLA as opposed to or
in addition to MLA?
Thanks for the info.
