Hi Folks,
Actually, I just fought this one two weeks ago. When one of the department
heads came to me for help in getting these very materials - during the
"reference interview" I found out that our Chief of Staff had asked all
department heads to begin to compile EBM practice guidelines. I made an
appointment and went to him tearfully. I said that I was devastated because
I had thought I was doing a good job but that since he was asking department
heads to do my job in bringing him information and since I couldn't do their
jobs - sniff sniff - he must be planning to eliminate the librarian. The
result - I am on their committee and have a ton of new work but I'm playing
with the big boys now and will be much more visible and my services will be
where they should be - in front of the administration - now I just have to
make sure that I deliver the goods!

"No, it doesn't mention librarians or their services specifically,
but with any luck CEO's will read between the lines."
Why be so passive and rely on luck? Why expect a CEO to
think of librarians immediately? Why keep what we do so
well a secret and resent those who don't know it. It
would be simple enough to attach a post-it to the article
(with a library logo, of course) that says "Your professional
librarian can do this!"
If we don't proclaim what we do best, no one else will!
