I don't know which would really be the one in front here, or if both
might not be co-equal.  It could be a case of gender-typing or it
could be just a case of the job/service/whatever itself simply not
being highly valued.  Far more men than previously are in the
profession (many of whom are high-ups in admin, which of course
itself is a topic that's given itself to argument on the list a number of
times over the years IIRC <grin>), & IMHO the profession has
become much less "a woman thing" in the popular perception the
last 15 years or so (nearly a generation of users).

I don't pretend to know all the solutions (if there are any <g>) by any
means, but I do know that a lot of times the only way to prove you're
valuable is to de facto *make* yourself so, which takes time & effort,
(a lot of both!) on a continuing basis.  We all want the quick fix, so as to
get rid of years of financial injustice as quickly as possible, but I think
we're sooner or later going to have to face facts & admit that like other
minorities }:) it's going to take a lonnnnnng time to get our rightful &
ju$t
due....

salary...but it is probably a human resources "fishing expedition"  they
are setting the salary somewhat by what comes in the door, particularly if
they have a request for "salary requirements" in the advertisement.

People, something has to be done about our "gender typed" and resultingly,
abysmal compensation.
