Summary
The Minneapolis VA Medical Center is a level 1A tertiary care teaching hospital providing inpatient and
outpatient services, rehabilitation, and extended care. The MVAMC has a four-part mission dedicated to
improving the health of our patients through medical care, research, teaching, and the provision of
medical back-up to the Department of Defense and to the community for emergency preparedness. The
MVAMC employs approximately 3,500 full-time staff and has residency programs in all specialties except
Pediatrics and OB/GYN. Student trainee programs are offered in all ancillary services.

Responsibilities
Duties:  The Librarian serves as a Medical Librarian at the Minneapolis Veterans Affairs Medical Center (MVAMC). Duties are to assist the Chief in decision-making issues related to range of service and resources, establishment of policies and procedures, and training, attend meetings, representing the Chief, when appropriate and may be responsible for official duties in the absence of the Chief and assists with these duties as requested. Duties of this position  also include, but are not limited to:
Carries out complex searches providing accurate and reliable information that informs clinical and management decisions, provides context for research efforts and encourages the self-directed learning of MVAMC staff.

Incumbent applies in-depth knowledge of the terminology and practices of health care disciplines,ncluding all fields of medicine and surgery, dentistry, nursing, mental health, health administration, pharmacy and allied health fields, to accurately interpret questions and complete reliable and comprehensive searches.

Serves as searcher for computer literature searches, utilizing MEDLINE, CINAHL, the Internet, and other automated data systems which involve searching through and locating information contained in books, journals, and government publications.

Uses expertise in a wide range of information sources, including sources that are non-standard in
general hospital libraries, to comprehensively answer varied and complex comprehensive
reference questions.

Teaches use of databases and search systems (including but not limited to OVID, UptoDate,
Clinical Key, Cochrane databases, PsycInfo, CINAHL, Access databases, Athens, Entrez,
Proquest, EOSi, Google, Electronic Library of Minnesota) either in one-to-one tutorials or through
classes or demonstrations.

Work schedule: Monday Thru Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm.
