Ok. I just ask him and he said he actually didn’t see a copyright on it so in that case do you think its safe to assume its in the public domain?

Information helps you to see that you're not alone. That there's somebody in Mississippi and somebody in Tokyo who all have wept, who've all longed and lost, who've all been happy. If I may ask: what makes you think that Taschen retains any rights to this? Looking at it, and especially since it is available on Heidelberg (not to mention it is pre-1923), I would assume it is in public domain. Anyone?

I got this email from a professor today: "This is a link to a text published in the 1800s. It is in public domain, but I believe a company called Taschen has rights to some aspect of the material. How does this work? I assume we cannot use images directly from their replication or digital copies. If we digitize the original book ourselves, could this be used in class? Could we sell it as part of a new work? I appreciate any guidance you can offer." Here is the link he references: https://digi.ub.uni-heidelberg.de/diglit/bourgey1840bd7_2/0008/image
