Has anyone else been having issues with the print quality of some of the articles in Ebscohost's fulltext databases?
Recently I've notice that a number of articles have been scanned in grayscale. When printed, there is a gray background and the text is light and fuzzy - like dot matrix print. This is extremely difficult to read. I have tried to find a way to change the setting to black & white when printing, but have had no luck.
I know that sometimes when I scan articles for ILL, I use grayscale so that photos and graphs that use shadings have better resolution. But a number of the articles in Ebscohost are just plain text - no photos, no graphs, no shadings - so I would expect them to be in b&w. Black & white files are also smaller than grayscale. There is some inconsistency in the way Ebsco scans the articles. I came across two articles from the same issue of the same journal - one was black & white, the other grayscale.
I have talked to an Ebsco customer service person and given them the citations to some articles for examples. They will look into this on a case by case (article by article) basis.
If others have encountered this same dissatisfaction, please let Ebsco know. Perhaps then they will look into their fulltext as a whole and set some quality standards.
