Head - Reference and Instruction Services

 

Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, founded in 1823,
is the second oldest college of pharmacy in the United States and the
oldest institution of higher education in the City of Boston.  MCPHS is
located in the heart of Boston's Longwood medical and academic area.
Branch campuses are also located in Worcester Massachusetts and
Manchester New Hampshire.  Major programs of study include: pharmacy,
physician assistant studies, nursing, dental hygiene, radiological
sciences, medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutics and pharmacology.

The Health Sciences Libraries are comprised of the main Boston library
and branch libraries in Worcester and Manchester.  The Libraries
maintains a collection of over 30,000 volumes and approximately 700
serials subscriptions are received annually with extensive collections
in pharmacy, drug information, medicinal herbs, chemistry, pharmacology
and supportive collections in clinical medicine and other health-related
resources.  Access is provided to more than 200 electronic books, 650
electronic journals and over 80 research databases. 

 

Reporting to the Director of Libraries, the Librarian is responsible for
planning and assessing the delivery of information/reference services on
all three campuses and distance education programs.  The successful
candidate will also coordinate the Libraries' instruction program and
outreach services including the development and assessment of the online
instruction modules, workshops and in-class instruction. Supervise 5
librarians.  Other duties include: serving as subject
bibliographer/instructor to assigned programs, membership on the
libraries web development committee, and assisting in the selection of
reference material (print and electronic).

 

Successful candidates will have an MLS from an ALA accredited
institution; minimum of 3 years experience in public services positions
in academic or health sciences libraries; excellent communication
skills; proven ability in managing multiple projects; ability to teach
and develop instruction programs; and experience working in a team
environment that fosters change and innovation; demonstrated ability to
work individually and as a member of a team of  highly motivated and
experienced individuals; honesty; integrity and commitment to
maintaining high professional standards.
