I agree I can see where you want to view the survey by itself with some
caution but when the results from the SLA DBIO 100 Poll supports many of
the same things that the NEJM study does, I have got to think that there
is some good information in there. The SLA Biomedical and Life Sciences
Dvision reported "DBIO 100 poll tends to confirm the NEM poll to a
remarkable degree in ranking the more specialized journals in virtually
all shared specialties, with the occasional exception of some one or two
place reversals."

It's an interesting (if self-serving for NEJM) survey, but I'd view it
with some caution. The survey was only sent to AMA members (which is
not representative of all US physicians), and it was only sent to
selected specialties. They did NOT include Family Medicine, Pediatrics,
Ob/Gyn, or Surgery (of any type). So it certainly does not reflect the
reading habits at my institution!
