Hi Karen, Berta
I have been working independently for a year after being a hospital
librarian for 15 years.
The work has included:
1.Individual information requests from health/medical professionals who may
not have easy access to a library.
2. Special projects for Professional societies who don't have their own
libraries.
3. Running my own Internet database which individuals and organisations
subscribe to.
4. Currently being involved in a medium term, part time project for a
health organisation. The work requires experience with the medical
profession and knowledge of resources and databases. There is no conflict
of interest, and a different perspective is seen as a good thing.
Comment: The freelance work is different to traditional library work, and
they both have their pros and cons. If I engage in traditional library work
again, it will just mean I can add my experience to that role. It happens a
lot in other professions, and I see this as a way of broadening our roles.
Good Luck
