Several postings lately have noted the need for patient education materials
in languages other than English. For those of you who are not yet familiar
with CHID, a Federal bibliographic database that cites materials in
languages from Hmong to Russian, please read on:

The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders
(NIDCD) Information Clearinghouse invites you to use our database!

The Deafness and Communication Disorders Database is one of 18
bibliographic databases that together form the Combined Health Information
Database (CHID). CHID is produced by a consortium of Federal health
agencies, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the
National Institutes of Health. CHID covers topics including diabetes,
digestive diseases, oral health, arthritis, and kidney and urologic
diseases. The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication
Disorders (NIDCD) Information Clearinghouse maintains the Deafness and
Communication Disorders Database. Searchers can use the database to find
information about topics related to hearing, balance, smell, taste, voice,
speech, and language. The NIDCD Information Clearinghouse updates and
expands the database 4 times each year. To use CHID, click on
http://chid.nih.gov. For more information about the NIDCD Information
Clearinghouse, visit our web site at http://www.nih.gov/nidcd or e-mail us
