I have mixed emotions here.

When they do post the salary, it is generally pitiful...so we don't apply.
When they don't there is this vague hope on my part that maybe it is a good
salary...but it is probably a human resources "fishing expedition"  they
are setting the salary somewhat by what comes in the door, particularly if
they have a request for "salary requirements" in the advertisement.

We are smart people and should be able to make this work for all of us
somehow.  Particularly since we are able to collaborate so nicely via this
communications vehicle.

People, something has to be done about our "gender typed" and resultingly,
abysmal compensation.  Quibble-ing (however you spell that) over whether it
is listed or not won't solve that one.
