Hi Joan,

I work in a federal library and here at the VA, we are not even permitted to look at personal patient health information. Any information librarians here receive about a medical case must not be able to be connected to a specific person. As I am not considered a health care provider (in the usual sense) I am not permitted to see a patent's personal health data.

All the best,

Ryan

Subject: [EXTERNAL] Provider-to-librarian messaging within the EHR

Do you know of/have experience with librarians logging in to the EHR, retrieving messages sent from providers within the system, and replying to the provider within the system, thus facilitating adding links and information to the patient's record? This is similar to the integrated model with behavioral health and with pharmacy.

One of our clinicians reported that by the time she minimizes the EHR, pulls up our email client, and launches an email, she's on to the next patient. She asked for a way within the EHR to send an information request to her librarian.

Thank you,
Joan
