And granted, proscription of the terms may only apply in budget documents/grant requests, there is still one significant thing to remember when assessing this situation:

The Director of the CDC is a political appointee, not a civil service merit promotion.

The plot thickens. To be honest I am clueless as to the timeline of events. However, I am disturbed that the word banning just might have happened.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/cdc-director-disputes-trump-ban-231219555.html

Excerpt:
"However, on Sunday morning CDC Director Dr. Brenda Fitzgerald, disputed the ban.

Fitzgerald took to Twitter to assure the public that there is not a ban on the following words: “vulnerable,” “entitlement,” “diversity,” “transgender,” “fetus,” “evidence-based” and “science-based.”"

disclaimer: these thoughts are mine alone and not of my place of employment

The Trump administration is prohibiting officials at the nation’s top public health agency from using a list of seven words or phrases — including “fetus” and “transgender” — in official documents being prepared for next year’s budget.

Policy analysts at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta were told of the list of forbidden words at a meeting Thursday with senior CDC officials who oversee the budget, according to an analyst who took part in the 90-minute briefing. The forbidden words are “vulnerable,” “entitlement,” “diversity,” “transgender,” “fetus,” “evidence-based” and “science-based.”

I sincerely apologize if this post offends anyone, but I do feel that the ramifications of this edict will affect our field and need to be discussed.
