Assistant Director for Access Services

The University of Florida Health Science Center Library (HSCL) invites
applications for the position of Assistant Director for Access Services.
The HSCL is one of the largest health science libraries in the Southeast.
The Library serves faculty, staff and students in the Colleges of
Medicine, Nursing, Health Professions, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Veterinary
Medicine and Shands HealthCare hospitals and health system. The Library's
user population includes 6,000 faculty and staff and over 3,700 students.
Borland Library, a branch library located on the Jacksonville campus of
the HSC and a reading room at the College of Veterinary Medicine are a
part of the Health Science Center Libraries.

Reporting to the Library Director, the Assistant Director for Access
Services is responsible for the overall management of Access Services,
including Circulation, Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery, Media Reserve
and the Veterinary Medicine Reading Room. The Assistant Director for
Access Services collects and analyzes library statistics, evaluates
workflow, establishes policies and procedures (including compliance with
Cost Accounting Standards for chargeable services), prepares reports,
develops and administers staff training programs, and serves as the
library's representative on state and university library committees
dealing with collection access issues. Special emphasis is placed on
contributing to the development of electronic tools to improve access to
HSCL resources and services, both locally or from a distance, and the
development of electronic reserves. Includes administrative responsibility
for HSCL facility maintenance and renovation.  Also responsible for the
supervision of the Coordinator for Circulation and the Supervisor for
Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery, and oversees the selection, training
and evaluation of 15 FTE staff members in these areas.

As a member of the senior management team, the Assistant Director for
Access Services participates in planning and implementing new services for
the library; works in coordination with other senior management team
members to provide efficient, comprehensive and timely customer service;
and contributes to long range planning.  Special responsibility includes
oversight of the Library's staff development program.

Required qualifications: Masters degree in Library or information
science from an ALA accredited library school. A minimum of three
years experience as a librarian in a health sciences, academic or life
sciences library. Supervisory experience.  Excellent written and oral
communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks.
Outstanding interpersonal skills and strong service orientation.
Flexibility and ability to thrive in a changing environment.  Strong
leadership and facilitation skills.

Desired qualifications:  Member or provisional member of the Medical
Library Association's Academy of Health Information Professionals or
eligible for membership within the first year of employment.
Experience in providing access services to library users in an
academic health science center or large teaching hospital, preferably in a
managerial position.

Salary: Negotiable depending on qualifications and experience.
Minimum: $40,000
