Hello Kerry,

"Cyclogenesis" describes the weather phenomenon of the birth of a cyclone or
tornado.

"Cytogenetics" is the study of chromosomes to analyze and determine genetic
information. For birth defects, genetic analysis is used to locate any
chromosome anomalies, and describe and determine the particular condition.

That is the closest word that comes to my mind. It does not relate to any
particular birth defect(s). Perhaps your patron missed a word or two in the
teacher's discussion.

Depending on how deep you or your patron want to dig, if he or she needs to find
a definition of a specific birth defect. you can try some of these sources and
ask them a "sounds like" question, or examine the lists of conditions.

by name. This is not meant to be a comprehensive list:
