Biomedical Librarian:
Located in Memphis, Tennessee, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is one
of the premier centers for research and treatment of catastrophic diseases
in children, primarily pediatric cancers. Our mission is to save children's
lives by finding the causes of catastrophic illnesses, improving treatment
and finding cures for their diseases.
The Biomedical Library services the needs of the staff and researchers at
the hospital. The library has an outstanding basic science collection with
over 400 current journal subscriptions and a 2,500 title book collection. We

Currently there is an opportunity available for Biomedical Librarian
position. The Biomedical Librarian assists the Library Director in all areas
of library management and assumes full responsibility for departmental
performance in the Director's absence. In addition, the Biomedical Librarian
has ongoing responsibilities including, but not limited to:

*       Coordinating the use, support, security, and enhancement of the
library's computer-based systems and workstations
*       Designing and maintaining the library web pages
*       Overseeing the  management of the circulation, serials, and
interlibrary loan operations
*       Acting as primary reference librarian, trains, supervises, and
evaluates the library staff in this activity
*       Planning and conducting library orientation programs, teaching and
promoting the use of the library's facilities

Requirements: Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited
program. Courses in health or biological sciences and/or computer science
would be helpful. Membership in the Academy of Health Information
Professionals is desirable, but not necessary. Three years in an academic,
special, or medical/ health science library, with one year post master's
library experience required. Knowledge of HTML and web design required.
Minimum one year online bibliographic database searching experience, Dialog
preferred; Significant experience with Medline and Docline (OVID and
QuickDoc a big plus); computer fluency; working knowledge of Windows95 and
Internet; OCLC/Prism ILL/cataloging experience desirable, but not required.

Experience & Skills
*       Emphasis of experience in the areas of reference, online searching,
computer services and library automation.
*       Knowledge of HTML/web design required
*       Minimum one year online bibliographic database searching experience,
Dialog preferred.
*       Administering automated systems (EOS International/Datatrek
software), Windows 95 Office products, OVID, and Internet and other
networked systems in a library preferred
*       Experience using Docline and/or Quikdoc for interlibrary loan
preferred
*       Problem solving skills: listening, oral, and written communication
skills; proven ability to work independently and cooperatively with patrons,
colleagues, and staff
