In answer to the request for information on biotech companies,
our favorite directory is:
        BioScan: the worldwide biotech industry reporting service
 
The directory is available in both electronic and paper formats
with frequent updates (monthly for the online version, six times
per year for the disk and the loose-leaf).
 
BioScan covers about 1,000 companies. Those that can't be found
here can be found in the databases that cover regional newspapers
and/or trade journals, or in the electronic version of BioWorld
Today (a daily faxed newsletter with an electronic equivalent).
 
The amount of information for each company varies.  A typical
entry includes: address, key personnel, number of employees (take
this one with a grain of salt - things change quickly in today's
biotech world!), and company history as well as ownership data
(stock/privately owned/subsdiary), facilities description,
business strategy, and agreements (with whom, about what, and when).
Information is included about products on the market (for those companies
that have gotten that far) and products in development (with stages --
Preclin,IND,etc.).
 
Each company is assigned subject terms and there is a corresponding
subject index as well as geographic and investors indexes.
