I strongly discourage anyone from licensing Sciwheel. It had 2 separate incidents this week where everyone's references vanished for hours. In the first episode, Sciwheel did not communicate anything to users for the first couple of hours, there was no email communication from Sciwheel for either incident, and I and my fellow librarians were stuck for hours telling our users we had no information to share with them, had no clue what was going on or when they would access to their references again. It is simply not a reliable service and therefore we can't recommend it to users anymore. Stick with Zotero.

Not a free one but Paperpile is interesting to explore as so easy to use (I find) - you can try it free for a month

Dear colleagues,

Do any of you have a recommendation for the best no-cost software to use for keeping track of papers for medical student/resident research projects?

We are not part of a university, so we don't have any campus-wide subscriptions.

I'd be interested to know whether your IT departments block any of them and, if folks are using the free/basic versions, how they get around the storage limits.

(I am familiar with the 2018 JMLA article on this topic and am looking at papers which have cited that one. Just looking for some more informal feedback on the topic.)

Thanks & Happy Friday!
