Betadine ointment does exist, or at least it did. It came in single use foil packets and was used in the 1980s and 90s as part of central IV catheter care. I have no idea if it is still manufactured, but it is not used for that purpose any longer.

I would think any type of iodine based application would be detrimental to mucus membranes, even those in the nose. IOW, this might be causing more problems than it solves.

I am out of all Chicago Metro Region libraries until further notice, but am able to access our digital collections. Please email me (preferred) or call the number below for assistance M-F. Stay well.

I would search on betadine (povidone-iodine) as a prophylaxis. As far as I know it is not available as an ointment, but I know of some people who are looking into this.

Hello Medlibbers,

I need some help with a search. My patron is looking for the following - it seems simple enough but I have found exactly one article that is helpful.

I have a patron who is interested in nasal creams/ointments in the treatment of COVID. So far I have found very little. I have not followed in detail all of the recently treatments like some of you have.

have searched: PubMed, Scopus, Embase, LitCovid, medRxiv preprints, Google/Google Scholar.

Where else should I be searching? Databases, terms? All suggestions, ideas and help would be greatly appreciated. I am running out of ideas.

Thank-you,

Halyna
