VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
 
THE NEW YORK ACADEMY OF MEDICINE LIBRARY
 
HIV/AIDS OUTREACH PROJECT COORDINATOR
 
Responsibilities:
 
Coordinate a project providing HIV/AIDS-related information
services to designated community-based organizations in New York
City.  Serve as the primary liaison to participating
organizations, periodically visiting them to promote the use of
services.  Provide reference, online database searching and other
information services.  Train individuals and groups to search
electronic and print sources of HIV/AIDS information.  Plan and
evaluate services.  Compile statistics and prepare reports.
Deliver presentations regarding the project at professional
meetings.
 
Position Available: September 6, 1994
 
Qualifications:
 
Required: Masters degree in library science from an ALA-
accredited program.  Two years of experience as a reference
librarian in a health sciences library.  Knowledge of online
database searching and resources on the Internet.  Demonstrated
ability to manage.  Excellent analytic and research skills.
Knowledge of the diverse information needs of HIV-related
providers including familiarity and comfort in working with
medical, public health, prevention education, psychosocial,
policy and legal materials.  Excellent oral and written
communication skills, microcomputer experience and a strong
commitment to public service.
 
Preferred:  Experience training individuals and groups in the use
of the Grateful Med software.
 
Salary:   $35,000 - $40,000 depending upon qualifications.
Excellent fringe benefits including 22 vacation days per year.
 
This position is grant funded through February 1996.  The Academy
is actively seeking funds to extend the project beyond that date.
