Sounds like it would be nearly impossible to read the books too....also
expensive.....I have homemade tracks with plexiglass panels, 2 per shelf
rack with 2 hasps/padlocks per rack so one door at a time can be
unlocked...has cut my losses to a fraction of what they were....certain
references I secrete where they are available to legitimate users but not
obvious...I used to use chained references but thieves just ripped out
sections...you can only do so much against determined thieves...regards

Subject: Shelving for books to prevent stealing
One of the ER physicians was just in, asking about shelving that he
remembers seeing someplace--perhaps at the NYU library (?). He would like
to purchase something similar for the ER in order to secure the textbooks
that are housed there. He described the shelving to me--even drew a little
picture. I told him that I would ask all of you if you could help us
idenfity either a manufacturer or even a good name for the type of
shelf--then we would be able to search further. We have looked through the
Demco, Brodart, and Gaylord catalogs without any luck.
The shelf holds about 10 books; each book is encased in a metal/plastic
jacket and the book hangs down underneath the shelf. When being used, the
text is swung up to the top of the shelf, where it can be opened and read.
He thinks that it would be nearly impossible to remove the books from this
shelving/security system.
Sorry for my feeble description, but that is about the best that I can do.
He and I would be grateful for any assistance you could offer us. Thanks.
