Hi Everyone!
I?m writing to fill you in on some great observation opportunities.
As many of you know from my moving speech in percussion methods this
past week, Will and I are helping Dr. Riley set up observations with
some fabulous local teachers. So far, we have contacted Christina
Toner (South Burlington High School), Tim Buckingham (Edmunds Middle
School) and Ed Owens (Burlington High School). Below is some
information specific to each teacher. READ CAREFULLY before you make
any plans for observing:
Tim Buckingham:
?Lessons are basically between 8:10-9:40 in the AM and 1:05-1:45 in
the afternoon. However, this rotates around with some prep time.
Ergo, I want potential observers to contact me if they are interested
in seeing specific lesson groups (and they are usually by
instrument).? ?Tim Buckingham

Christina Toner:
Christina?s schedule is a bit nutty:
8:40-10- Symphonic Band
12-12:40 and 1:20-1:55- World Drumming
2:55-3:25- 8th Grade band
Gray days:
8:40-10- Concert Band
12-12:40 and 1:20-1:55- Wind Ensemble
2:55-3:25- 8th Grade band
Attached to this email is a calendar specifying the color of specific
dates. Be sure to consult it before you get in touch with Christina.

Ed Owens:
?I am more than willing to have students observe my classes. There is
large ensemble rehearsal everyday from 9:45-11:15am, except for
Wednesday's rehearsal which runs from 10:15-11:30am.? ?Ed Owens
To keep things simple, Ed has asked that you send your requests for
observations to ME; I will then compile them and send them to him in
one neat little package. So, do not email Ed Owens to observe Ed
Owens; email me to observe Ed Owens. Thanks!

General Observing Pointers:
? Dress professionally (like we did at VMEA).
? Email the teachers (or me in the case of Ed Owens) well in advance
of your visit; I would advise shooting for a week ahead at the least.
? Remember to bring an observation form and a writing implement.
? If you are going to observe in a group, be sure to make that clear
to the teacher (or me in the case of Ed Owens). There is a big
difference between one guest observer and five guest observers. That
being said, most teachers are okay with small groups. This is also
advisable for folks who do not have cars on campus.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Also, remember
that these are not the only teachers in the area; if there is someone
else who you would like to observe, feel free to look into it!
Thank you for your time.
-Andy
