 MORETOWN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Special School Board Meeting
Wednesday, Aug. 24. 2005

FOR APPROVAL

Present:
Board members - Deb Hunter, Ray Daigle, Karen Horn, Mary Nowlan,
Principal Roberta Barone

Meeting called to order at 6:02 pm by Chair, Deb Hunter.

Bank Loan
On a motion by Ray, seconded by Karen, the board voted unanimously to
sign required documentation to borrow up to $350,000 in anticipation of
tax receipts.
Board Orders
On a motion by Mary, seconded by Karen, the following board orders were
unanimously approved for payment: #5 in the amount of $10,537.76; #6
for $6,122.59; #7 for $77,047.19.

Letters of intent
On a motion by Deb, seconded by Karen, the board authorized Deb to sign
a letter of intent offering positions at Moretown Elementary to Greg
Wagner, part-time custodian; Pam Kathan, administrative assistant; and
Lisa Shepherd, individual aide/paraeducator.

John Schmeltzer arrived at the meeting at 6:15 pm.

Residency issues
The board had a lengthy discussion about school policy concerning
students who wish to start the school year at Moretown but who have not
yet moved into a home in town. On a motion by Karen, seconded by Ray,
the board authorized Deb to send a letter to the Wimble and Dash
families informing them that while their children would be welcome the
first day of school, the families would need to be resident in the
community by Nov. 1 or the school will charge them tuition.

Therapeutic Dog
Roberta presented a letter from Joni Clemons requesting that her dog
become a classroom therapy dog after he completes the Canine Good
Citizen and Therapy Dog training classes this fall. From past
experience Joni believes that the interaction with the dog would
benefit many students, particularly two special needs students in her
class. She will be sending a letter to parents at the beginning of
school inquiring about potential allergy problems and requesting
general feedback about the idea.

Adjournment
On a motion by Deb, seconded by Mary, the meeting was adjourned at 7:40
pm.
