The American Academy for the Advancement of Science recently conducted a
"rigorous analysis of 12 middle school mathematics [programs] Only four
recently published series received high ratings, while the other more
well-established textbooks were rated as unsatisfactory"

Those which received the high marks were, in order of their scores:
Connected Mathematics (Dale Seymour), Mathematics in Context (Encyclopedia
Britannica); Mathscape (Creative Publications) and Middle Grades
MathThematics (McDougal Little).
