As the Chair of South Burlington City Council, I would always encourage new
people to work with and get to know how different departments operate.  It
only makes good common sense...  In fact, when we have a new City Councilor
elected, we encourage them to visit with each dept. head to try to get a
better understanding of how the City functions... and that includes talking
with the workers themselves.

As a manager in the business community, we hold orientations for our new
people whether they are managers or hourly workers so they get a feel for how
the company does what it does...
