PSYS 269 - Fit Kids: Special Populations



What is "Fit Kids: Special Populations" (PSYS 269)?

  *   A 3-credit service learning course about promoting
  *   better psychological adjustment through the use of structured physical activity
  *


What Will I Learn and Do?

  *
  *
  *   We will take an in-depth look at research regarding
  *   how physical activity may assist in managing symptoms of ADHD, anxiety, depression and autism
  *
  *
  *
  *   You will become a trained facilitator of the
  *   Kiddie CATs on the Move
  *   program:  https://www.uvm.edu/catsmove
  *
  *
  *
  *   You will be involved in an active research project
  *
  *
  *
  *   Students will work remotely with local Head Start
  *   classrooms to facilitate physical activity
  *


What is the Format? This is a Remote Class

  *
  *   Students will spend one hour per week in the UVM
  *   synchronous remote classroom
  *
  *
  *
  *   Students will attend two remote 2-hour service-learning
  *   labs each week
  *


Who Should Take this Course?

  *
  *   Students and professionals from a range of disciplines
  *   (e.g., psychology, education, exercise science, social work, nursing, pediatrics) seeking to augment their knowledge of physical activity & children's mental health
  *

  *
  *   All majors and levels (freshman through seniors)
  *   are welcome
  *

  *   This course is an essential part of the Physical
  *   Activity Promotion in Children and Youth (PAPCY) certificate program, a collaboration of Departments of Psychological Science, Early Childhood Education, and Exercise and Movement Science. For PAPCY info:
