Neuroscience NSCI 295
Time is Brain! Stroke and the Cerebral Circulation
The brain is a relatively small organ (about 2% of body weight) and yet consumes 20% of total oxygen and 25% of total glucose. Neurons and other cells in the brain need a constant energy supply, and therefore rely on continuous and precise blood flow to the brain to maintain their high energy activities. Want to understand how blood flow is controlled in the brain and what will happen when it is dysfunctional? Want to know how different kinds of strokes are diagnosed and treated? With expertise from basic scientists and clinicians, this is the course for you to comprehensively understand how the brain circulation works physiologically and what happens during disease states.
