Had he already activated his YouTube account, it's only if they never used it before.

Elizabeth - Are you sure? I just used one of my test student accounts (G+ not enabled for our students) to post a sample video as "unlisted" and visited it with another account.

Yes, I've been promoting WeVideo with our teachers...and am working with a MS LA 7/8th grade class right now creating Digital Stories based on their written narratives. Here's a link to the lesson and ties to Common Core

But, I've just run into a problem with Google Plus. Since YouTube recently (last week or so) did a major over hall and tied the YouTube user account to Google Plus if a student account has not had Google Plus enabled and they don't already have a YouTube account they will not be able to upload videos to their YouTube Account. I'm trying to find out how they will resolve this issue with GAE accounts where many students are under 13 and cannot use Google+. I'm hoping they do the same as they did with Blogger where you have a choice to use the Google+ profile or Blogger Profile with the account.

When this conversation arose a year or so ago (or more) the options were limited and not quite viable...

I have been putting WeVideo for Google Drive (from the Chrome store) through it's paces for a couple of weeks and it is doing everything I want it to do: imports files directly from your Drive, converts every video type I have tried (a wide variety collected over the years), and kids can collaborate in real time (some "refresh" required.) I worked with 15+ groups using it simultaneously in a lab today with no bandwidth issues. Three levels of editing: Storyboard (Basic,) Timeline and (by going directly to their site) Advanced. The only real limitation I see is that you can only "Publish" 15 minutes of video per month. Awesome!

Getting away from local storage for video editing is huge.
