A technology support index at ISTE's site
http://tsi.iste.org/techsupport/technologysupportindex_v2.pdf
has a rubric for staffing (among many other items). The lowest score
is for computer to technician ratio of 250 or more:1. The highest score
is for 75 or less:1 ratio. Our schools fall into the low scoring end of
this rubric.

With respect to job descriptions and titles, currently we have several
full-time, shared time and part-time personnel hired by nine individual
schools doing a wide gamut of jobs that I won't even try to sort out
here. We are attempting to create and evolve a district support team
covering all nine of our schools. Our very early draft versions of
titles and brief descriptions are as follows:

District Technology Coordinator: Quantitiy: 1
Leads in matters of creating technology curriculum, defining
technology plans, analyzing student assessment data, writing technology
grants, budgeting technology and so forth. Coordinates and participates
in the efforts of the network administrators, technology support
specialists and the integration specialists at the CESU level.

Network Administrator: Quantity: 2
Is responsible for the planning, implementation, maintenance and
growth of the WAN, in coordination with the District Technology
Coordinator. Oversees and participates in the maintenance, repair and
growth of the network infrastructure in the CESU. Coordinates the
activities of the technical support specialists. Oversees the running
of the help desk.

PC Technician: Quantity: 3 - 4
Responsible for the maintenance and repair of information
technology hardware and associated software in the CESU. Works the help
desk, as well as assisting the network specialists in network issues

Integration Specialist: Quantity 1 - 3
Utilizes a variety of techniques to help teachers integrate the
use of software into the curriculum. Works with other CESU integration
specialists and the CESU technology coordinator in planning and
implementing integration of technology.

Lab monitors would be hired by individual schools according to our
draft plan.

Disclaimer - All of these titles and descriptions are draft, and thus
may change drastically by the time they jump through numerous hoops.
