** Technology Making a Difference Institute

** An Institute About Learning, Teaching, and Technology
** for Instructional Technology Specialists,Library Media Specialists and
          Curriculum and Professional Development Specialists
** October 25-26, 1999 at The Kasperian Center, Springfield, MA
** Organized by TERC
** Sponsored by NetTech
** PRIORITY given to applicants from CT, NH, and VT

Many districts have acquired the computers, the printers, even the networks
and Internet connections. As they get the technology installed and teachers
trained to use it, they still face the hardest question: Now what? How can
technology make a difference?

Sponsored by NetTech, TERC is organizing a series of 2-day institutes to
address this question. The institutes are aimed at schools that are ready
to move to the next step: school-based support for the integration of
technology into the curriculum. The institutes will be led by experts in
the field of educational technology-all experienced in the problems of
teachers, schools, and districts using technology-who will assist
school-based leaders in understanding and recognizing the principles of
good of teaching and learning with technology.

Participants will explore elements of good learning and the role technology
can play in reaching this goal. The institute will emphasize how
technology can be used as a tool to support student and teacher inquiry,
problem solving, higher order thinking skills and extend creative thinking
processes. This

hands-on institute will give participants an opportunity
to experience good teaching and learning with technology, reflect on this
experience, develop a curriculum piece to be used in their own schools, and
plan how they can disseminate this information to others in their district.

To learn more about the Institute and to complete an enrollment form, visit
our webpage at http://tmd.terc.edu. If you cannot access the website,
contact the TMD Institute staff at [log in to unmask] Applications are due by
October 4. All costs of enrollment are covered by a grant from NetTech.
Educators from the northeast region (12 states plus D.C.--see
http://www.nettech.org/resources/states.htm) are eligible to apply.
