*NYC Event: The Prosecution of Julian Assange*

Saturday, February 15th,
2 pm
CUNY Law School, 2 Court Square West
Queens, NY 11101
(Trains: 7, E, G)

A panel of experts will confront the dangerous consequences of the
US government prosecuting Julian Assange under the Espionage Act of 1917

The Courage Foundation announces "˜The Prosecution of Julian Assange: His
Right to Publish is Our Right to Know", a panel event featuring leading
attorneys, journalists, and human rights defenders at CUNY Law School in
New York City to discuss the Trump Administration's indictment of the
WikiLeaks founder, who faces extradition to the United States from the
United Kingdom.

Speaking at CUNY Law School will be

Jim Goodale, former New York Times General
Counsel, who argued for that paper's right to publish the Pentagon Papers
Max Blumenthal, journalist and editor of The Grayzone
Renata Avila, public and legal advocate for Julian Assange; and
Glen Ford, executive editor of Black Agenda Report.

The event will also feature new exclusive video statements from
historian Noam Chomsky
author Alice Walker, and
whistleblower Daniel Ellsberg

The panel will be moderated by Idalin Bobé, founder of TechActivist.Org.

Julian Assange remains detained in
maximum-security Belmarsh prison in London, where
he awaits his extradition hearing scheduled to
begin February 24th. If extradited to the US,
Assange would face prosecution for the 2010
publication of classified US military and
diplomatic documents, exposing extensive war crimes and corruption.

Indicted under 17 counts of Espionage and 1 count
of computer crime, threatening over 175 years in
prison if convicted, Assange would face the first
ever charges of Espionage for the publication of
truthful information in the public interest.

These esteemed speakers will discuss Assange's
indictment, the threat it poses to press freedom
around the world, and what we can do to protect the First Amendment.

This event is cosponsored by FAIR, National
Lawyers Guild-NYC, NYC Free Assange, Big Apple Coffee Party, and OR Books.

A major demonstration in support of Assange is
planned for 11am on Feb. 24 at the UK Consulate in New York City.

The Courage Foundation campaigns for the public
and legal defense of Julian Assange and WikiLeaks at defend.wikileaks.org.
