I am dubious about this. It seems like more rumor mongering on the net. Given
the capital investment it would take to actually carry this out (along with
presumed "breakthroughs" in GM), I doubt that something like this would occur
without KFC tooting its horn on its technological advantage to everyone within
media distance.
On the other hand, I am sure the food industry would like to do this, if not
grow chicken meat without any bone or feathers to make it easier to get product
to market. Given the many people who object to chicken farming for
"humanitarian" (we need a better word here, compassionate??) reasons, this may
not be as bad an alternative as the current situation. If it is possible it
will probably be quite expensive and wil take a long time to achieve. Another
thought, it may be easier to recycle waste products in this weird scenario.
