Regarding the VPIRG issue, I would agree with Tony for a few reasons.
Even though their membership is likely all students, the students involved
were more than likely recruited from the National group rather than
students taking the initiative to form an organization like this. I also
am strongly opposed to funding this organization, again for the same
reasons as Tony previously mentioned. I think that while many of the
views that VPIRG promotes are in line with a majority of students on
campus, it would not be in the best interests of the school for any
lobbying done by VPIRG to say that it was the same message that the
student body of UVM promoted. As we offer all of our clubs and
organizations the use of our name and mascots, I think it would be in poor
judgement to allow the VPIRG organization this opportunity. I therefore do
not support
VPIRG's admittance into the clubs and organizations we have under the SGA
umbrella.
Have a great weekend. Ben
