I don't have much to add about skiing at hte Bush on Sunday, except to say
that I can't wait for snow. I took a few runs with a snowmaker named Dave who
just moved here from Jackson. I asked why and he said to be around family.
Dave was on old Lange skis with beatup old T2's and he ripped. Apparently he
spent a lot of time with Coombs out there, and in the backcountry. He also
told me that Upper FIS had knee deep snow and was great. This was all I
needed to hear so I drove home, got the hiking gear and headed over to North.
I started hiking up and got almost to the base of Cliffs when I ran into Scott
Reeves who said they weren't letting people ski at North. GMVS was training
up there and that was that. I didn't argue, and Scott gave me a ride back to
my car. Through the course of the trip I learned some great news: SB plans
to open the Super Bravo lift at 8:00 am mid week this year! We have lamented
the loss of the early opening for years, and now we'll be able to take a few
runs before work. Scott did say that this was a trial thing and if people
didn't take advantage of it they would reevaluate it later. I think this is
great, and probably means on powder days they will open super early so keep
this in mind.
Right now in Waitsfield there is a screaming south wind and the temperature
is 58. This does not bode well. Is anyone else wondering about the storm
track that is developing? It seems that a lot of the lows are passont to the
north and west of us which is not a good pattern to be in. I hope some cold
weather gets established soon, and we get some snow. It is still early
though. With luck the current thaw won't be too bad because I think North
will rock when they open up on Wed if it doesn't get too warm.
I usually only regard early season skiing as a way to get in shape, but
enough is enough. Time to hike.

Mike
