Disclaimer: never go anywhere near a winch cat ever. if you don't have a
whole bunch of trees between you and the cat and you and the entire winch
line you are in a seriously dangerous area. If you have an in at Stowe and
they say they are OK with uphill travel as long as you are visible and not
being an idiot, that's GREAT! i don't have a pass there so i wouldn't feel
too bad taking the risk, but i know at Sugarbush they frown upon it
heavily, not only that their uphill travel policy is purposefully
preventative, you can only get to the top of valley house or north lynx
while remaining within the rules. you can go the long way to the top of
castle rock without getting caught too easily since they seldom groom that
peak and tho they say overnight stays on the mountain are not aloud the
castlerock warming hut is a long trail shelter and is always open with a
propane heater if you know how to turn it on. the patrolers are cool with
it but they still rather you be out of there when they get up there around
9:00.
