Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Burlington VT
328 AM EDT Thu Jun 7 2018

.SYNOPSIS...
Relatively tranquil weather conditions are expected today and
through the upcoming weekend. A weak upper level trough passing
across southern Quebec will bring variably cloudy conditions
today. Also, this upper level trough may bring a brief sprinkle
or isolated shower across northern Vermont and far northern New
York today and tonight. Mainly clear conditions are expected on
Friday with northwesterly winds and low humidity. Temperatures
will moderate back closer to seasonable levels, with highs today
and Friday mainly in the low to mid 70s in valley locations.
Dry and seasonable conditions will continue through the upcoming
weekend.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH FRIDAY/...
As of 133 AM EDT Thursday...Synoptic pattern features sfc high
pressure extending from the Gulf of Maine WSWWD across srn New
England into NJ, and a NW flow at 700mb. Embedded within the NW
flow, a shortwave trough with limited moisture will pass north
of the intl border this afternoon.

Will see S-SW winds 5-10 mph today bringing a continued
moderation in temperatures. Should see afternoon highs into the
low 70s for most valley locations. Skies will be variably cloudy
as the shortwave trough shifts across srn Quebec this afternoon
and tonight with mid-level clouds (generally 5-10kft AGL). May
see an isold shower or sprinkle across nrn areas as a result
(PoPs around 20%), but no prolonged precipitation is expected.
Winds shift into the NW on Friday with dewpoints falling into
the upr 30s to mid 40s. Should see mostly sunny skies with
temperatures in the low-mid 70s for afternoon highs. PoPs nil
for Friday.

&&

.SHORT TERM /FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT/...
As of 322 AM EDT Thursday...Overall a very pleasant weekend is
in store for the North Country. The region will remain under
relatively dry northwesterly flow aloft. A weak low pressure
system will slide southeastward from Hudson Bay toward the
International Border Friday night through Saturday morning, but
the impacts to the sensible weather will just be a few clouds in
the morning and maybe an isolated shower or two in northern
Vermont. Once this system moves through, surface high pressure
will build through the day Saturday and widespread fair weather
will resume. Skies will be partly to mostly sunny and highs
will top out in the upper 60s to low 70s.

&&

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
As of 322 AM EDT Thursday...The long term forecast will be
driven largely by the establishment and evolution of an omega
block over North America. The overall pattern will feature a
fairly deep trough over the western CONUS, a ridge of
questionable amplitude over central North America, and continued
troughing over the northeastern US. It continues to look like
our forecast area will remain on the southwestern periphery of
the eastern trough, putting us in continued northwesterly flow.
As a closed upper low within the longwave trough drops southward
towards the New England/Canadian Maritimes Region Monday/Tuesday,
instability will increase and some showers could pop up. Model
consistency has not been great on the track/timing of this low
however, so for now have continued to limit PoPs to slight
chance or below for the first part of the work week.

Looking towards mid-week, the West Coast trough begins to under
cut the ridge over the central US. This will allow the omega
block to break down and introduce widespread progressive,
westerly flow over the northern US from Coast to Coast. At this
point, Vermont and New York become increasingly susceptible to
more active weather, but it remains too early to time individual
features within the progressive flow.

Temperatures in the long term look to start out at or slightly
below seasonal norms, and will depend on the placement of the
trough over the East Coast. Have continued to forecast highs in
the upper 60s to 70s in the long term, with a gradual slight
warming trend through next week.

&&

.AVIATION /08Z THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
Through 12Z Friday...Only significant aviation wx issue will be
radiational fog early this morning affecting SLK/PBG/MPV with
LIFR at times thru 12Z. Otherwise, anticipate SCT-BKN050-080
conditions today and tonight. May see a passing/brief shower at
MSS and across the northern mtns this afternoon into tonight,
but measurable precipitation generally not expected. Light and
variable winds will become S-SW 5-10kts mid-morning thru early
this evening.

Outlook...

Friday: VFR. NO SIG WX.
Friday Night: VFR. NO SIG WX.
Saturday: VFR. NO SIG WX.
Saturday Night: VFR. NO SIG WX.
Sunday: VFR. NO SIG WX.
Sunday Night: VFR. NO SIG WX.
