I don't know enough about non-race jr. skis to judge their edge hold
on ice. But, if there exists a significant difference then I
recommend the race skis. Not so that PS's kid can win races, but so
that she can have fun. Nothing is more un-fun (and for a kid, scary)
than having no edges on ice. Good edges, OTOH, encourage the
development of good technique and confidence, two things (especially
the latter) that are key to having fun.

On the other hand, if today's regular jr. skis have great edge grip on
ice when tuned, than they might be sufficient. I still, however,
recommend developing a quiver. Have a pair of skis for racing and
training, and a pair for free skiing. Similarly, I wouldn't use my
M40A3 for close-quarter, multiple target urban combat (for that I
would probably use my Skorpion vz 61). Preferably I would reserve the
M40A3 for sniper missions, and have an AK-47 or AK-74 for all-round,
general purpose use.
