Randy Witlicki [[log in to unmask]] writes:

>CONCORD - Mount Clay, a shoulder on the north side of Mount Washington
>in the Presidential Range of the White Mountains, will be known in New
>Hampshire as Mount Reagan, after former President Ronald Reagan.

That well-known founding father...

Names,
>which means it won't appear on federal maps, forest guides or other

Thereby making it more confusing/difficult for the unwary lookin' for
the Airplane Gully & Pipeline couloir. I'm glad I found it before they
pulled the switcheroo...

>Federal regulations say that such features cannot be named after a
person
>until five years after the person's death.

Does five-years brain-dead count? If yes, wouldn't most of the
nominally-living former-presidents fall into that category? :-)

>In 1913, the Legislature voted to change the name of Mount Clinton to
>Mount Pierce, but the original name stuck to associated trails and
roads.

D'ya mean it wasn't named after President Clinton? Golly... Who is this
Pierce fella anyhoo?

It's good to know that the NH taxpayers are gettin' their money's worth
out of their legislators...
