Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Burlington VT
413 AM EDT SAT JUN 4 2016

.SYNOPSIS...
Warm, dry with increasing sunshine for the first half of the
weekend will be replaced with rain and cloudy skies Sunday into
Monday. Rainfall could be heavy at times on Sunday. Unsettled
conditions continue into midweek. A trend toward cooler
temperatures is anticipated into the middle of next week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
As of 350 AM EDT Saturday...Mid level cyclonic flow will shift
east and we will feel the affects of a building ridge today.
Sensible weather will be mostly clear to partly cloudy skies with
clouds generally in mid level to upper level cirrus. Expect mostly
dry conditions and light winds with persistent above normal
temperatures. Max temperatures expected to reach the 70s to low
80s this afternoon.

As we head into tonight, moisture will be increasing with PWATS
of 1-1.5 inches by 12Z Sunday. This will translate to increasing
clouds overnight, from long anticipated longwave trough
approaching from the Great Lakes region. Precipitation associated
with this system will approach from the southwest, but is expected
to hold off til around sunrise Sunday morning. Areas to see precip
first will be the Adirondacks and St Lawrence valley. With this
system encroaching upon the region, pressure gradient will be
increasing, leading to increasing winds with low level jet
developing out of the south to southeast at 25-35 kts early Sunday
morning. With increased cloud cover and influx of warmer air
riding on southerly flow, expect min temperatures generally in the
50s.

&&

.SHORT TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/...
As of 413 AM EDT Saturday...A warm front approaches the region on
Sunday with widespread rain developing across the region. Rain
will be heavy at times, especially Sunday afternoon and early
Sunday night, as precipitable water values climb to 1.5 to 1.75
inches. Models showing mid level dry slot will work into the
region by 06z Monday, so will taper off rain to showers after
midnight Sunday night. Expecting a widespread 1 to 2 inches of
rainfall from Sunday through daybreak on Monday, with some locally
higher amounts of 2 to 3 inches over the east facing slopes of the
Green Mountains and Adirondacks, due to southeast winds. However,
given the recent dry antecedent conditions across the region, not
expecting any flooding issues at this time. Have lowered max
temperatures a few degrees from mos guidance on Sunday due to
cloud cover and expected heavy rainfall.

Have lowered pops to chance for Monday, as models showing just
scattered light rain showers across the region on Monday.

&&

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
As of 413 AM EDT Saturday...Models showing a closed upper low
over Canada through the period, with several shortwaves rotating
around this closed upper low. Thus, have stayed with superblend
pops and will have a chance of rain showers through the period.
Expecting near normal temperatures on Tuesday, with cooler than
normal temperatures expected from Wednesday through Friday.

&&

.AVIATION /08Z Saturday THROUGH Wednesday/...
Through 06z Sunday...VFR conditions at KBTV/KPBG AND KRUT will
persist, while IFR/LIFR fog possible at KMSS/KSLK and KMPV
through 12Z. Morning sun will lift fog and winds will gradually
increase out of the north at 3-8kts. VFR conditions expected
throughout Saturday and into Saturday evening. Clouds will begin
to increase from the southwest Saturday night.

Outlook 06z Sunday through Wednesday...

06z Sunday-18z Monday...MVFR to local IFR in moderate rain and
stratus. LLWS potential 06z-18z Sun, with gusty south winds at
BTV.
18z Monday-12z Tuesday...VFR. Possible evening LIFR fog at MPV
and SLK.
12z Tuesday-12z Wednesday...VFR/MVFR with showers.
12Z Wednesday onward...Mainly VFR, possible MVFR showers for MPV
and SLK.
