AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION

THANKS ALY FOR THE BACKUP TODAY. FORECAST LOOKS GOOD AND QUICK
PEEK AT NEW MODEL SUGGEST LEAVING WATCH AREAS AND SNOW AMOUNTS ALONE
FOR NOW. WITH SIG PRECIPITATION NOT EXPECTED UNTIL FRIDAY AFT/EVE
THROUGH EARLY SAT AM AND NO AVIATION GUIDANCE YET, WILL LEAVE AS
WATCH FOR NOW. STILL SOME QUESTIONS ON THE EXACT LOCATION OF HEAVIER
PRECIP. IT LOOKS LIKE A BORDERLINE WARNING EVENT IN MOST
LOCATIONS..IE AROUND 6 INCHES IS A GOOD BET. HOWEVER, BEST BETS LOOKS
LIKE LIKE RUTLAND...WINDSOR AND ORANGE COUNTIES WOULD STAND TO GET
THE MOST SNOW.

SOME LIGHT SNOW OR FLURRIES OVERNIGHT TONIGHT WITH TEMPERATURES
IN THE MID 20S TO LOWER 30S. THIS BAND OF SNOW SHOULD PRODUCE JUST
A DUSTING TO AN INCH AT MOST AND BE DONE BY 09Z. THEN JUST
CLOUDY WITH SNOW DEVELOPING MAINLY IN THE AFTERNOON TOMORROW
BECOMING MODERATE TO HEAVY TOWARD EVENING LASTING THE
EARLY MORNING HOURS OF SATURDAY.

AWIPS SOFTWARE UPGRADE COMPLETE AND NEW DATA IS FLOWING IN...BUT
RADAR DATA NOT YET RESTORED FROM EITHER KCXX OR KTYX. RADAR DATA

                        LSC WEATHER CENTER FORECAST
                       4:15PM Thursday March 8, 2001
                     STUDENT METEOROLOGIST: Daryl Caver
** The latest forecast for Northeast & North Central Vermont**
** The area bounded by Waterbury, St. Johnsbury, and Newport**

WINTER STORM WATCH FOR CENTRAL AND NORTHEAST VERMONT IN EFFECT FROM
                        FRIDAY INTO SATURDAY MORNING

Thursday Night: Increasing cloudiness. 50% chance of light snow
beginning after midnight. Lows near 20. South wind at 5-10mph.

Friday: Snow will continue to fall throughout the day. Highs in the
mid 30's. An East wind at 10-15mph.

Friday Night: Snow continues to fall. North wind at 5-15mph. Lows near
   20.

Saturday: Snow will taper off to scattered snow showers by
mid-morning, before coming to an end in the afternoon. Total snow
accumulation is 4-7 inches. Highs in the mid 30's. Lows in the mid
   20's.

                             Extended Forecast

Sunday: A partly sunny day. Chance for some light snow in the evening.
Highs near 40. Lows near 20.

Monday: Partly cloudy. Highs near 40. Lows near 20.

Tuesday: Cloudy with the chance for some more snow. Highs near 40.
   Lows in the lower 20's.

                            Forecast Discussion

A WINTER STORM WATCH HAS BEEN ISSUED BY THE NWS and is in EFFECT FROM
FRIDAY THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING. A watch means heavy snowfall is
possible but not yet cretain. What we are certain of is that we will
pick up anywhere from 4-7 inches of snow by the time this ends on
Saturday morning. If heavy snowfall becomes more certain, a Winter
Storm Warning will be issued, but as it stands right now only a WINTER
STORM WATCH HAS BEEN ISSUED. Do take care and precaution tomorrow if
you do have to go out. Also if you are heading South, make sure you
give yourself some extra time, as they will pick up 5-10 inches across
   Southern Vermont.
